When designing a new intake system for a turbocharged engine, filtration, airflow and heat are key factors.
Our do88 intake system is designed to provide the turbo with good filtration, improved airflow, while maintaining low inlet temperatures. One design challenge for this B58 Gen 2 intake system is the location, as it is located right next to the exhaust manifold, which quickly places thermal stress on this location area in the engine bay.
High intake air temperatures are bad for engine performance as the turbo would have to build pressure with hotter, less dense air. Therefore, a fully sealed intake system is the only way to ensure IATs are kept to a minimum. However, a fully sealed system has a challenge as it creates a limitation as only one air intake in the bottom of the air box draws air in. During development, we noticed that the system needed a secondary air intake to remove this limitation. Our sealed air box also features heat shielding to minimize radiant heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To ensure adequate air volume around the filter, we designed a large 7″ air box, which of course also allows space for struts.
To replace the stock intake hose, we designed a smoother, larger carbon tube. It starts at 105mm (4.1") in diameter and tapers seamlessly to fit into the turbo's inlet pipe. Attached to the intake pipe is our large, custom designed air filter. The filter is made from tightly knitted cotton gauze for superior filtration. It is of course washable and reusable for optimal performance and long life.
The system is available in different layouts. It is compatible with the OE turbo inlet pipe, but also with do88's CNC machined turbo inlet pipes. Our turbo inlet pipes are available in two different versions: for OE or Pure 800 Hybrid turbo. Both feature a huge 89mm (3.5") hose connection to the inlet pipe and have a carefully calculated, flow optimized radius that greatly improves airflow. With the addition of the do88 turbo inlet pipe, all bottlenecks in front of the turbo are effectively removed to avoid overshoot even at high power outputs!
Tests conducted on our SuperFlow SF1020 flow dyno clearly demonstrate the importance of this optional turbo inlet pipe. The intake system alone offers a significant 15% increase in airflow. When combined with the do88 turbo inlet pipe (for OE turbo) the total airflow increases by an impressive 23%! We strongly recommend this combination.
The original air box and turbo inlet hose are designed with elements that minimize the noise generated by the turbo and air intake. In particular, the factory inlet hose has two sound silencers to ensure that the turbo operates quietly. In contrast, our intake system does not require these noise-reducing elements, allowing for an audible turbocharger spool and intake noise.
The kit is available in three versions, depending on the turbo application:
- Without the do88 turbo inlet pipe. The intake system connects to the OE plastic turbo inlet pipe.
- Featuring the CNC machined do88 Turbo inlet pipe*, designed for the OE turbo. Read NOTE*.
- Featuring the CNC machined do88 turbo inlet pipe* designed for the Pure 800 turbocharger. Read NOTE*.
*The do88 turbo inlet pipe does not have a crankcase heater element, which means the car's wiring connector will be disconnected. We recommend doing a custom tune to avoid CEL (check engine light).
Main features:

The filter is supplied without filter oil applied, so we recommend treating the air filter with cotton filter oil to increase air filtration in case you drive your car in dusty environments. For example, you can use BMC filter oil with part number “WAFLU250”.

- We recommend cleaning the air filter every 10,000 km; please use a universal cleaning product specifically designed for cotton air filters. For example, you can use BMC washer fluid with part number “WADET500”.
- A fully enclosed/sealed design that ensures only cold air is supplied to keep IATs low.
