Eventuri intake for TOYOTA SUPRA MK5 A90

Power increase: 17-25hp, 11-20ft-lb

The MK5 Supra Eventuri intake is designed to provide a less restrictive flow path for the turbo whilst maintaining low inlet temperatures. Heat and volume are the key considerations when designing an intake system for turbocharged engines. On the Supra, the intake system is located next to the exhaust manifold which heats up the engine bay quickly. High temperatures are detrimental to engine performance as the turbo would need to be charged with heated, less dense air so the only way to keep IATs to a minimum is with a fully enclosed intake. However, this results in a restriction with only one air feed to draw air from. During development we noticed an additional opening in the wheel arch area and took advantage of this by adding an additional feed in our air box. In addition, our sealed airbox also features a gold reflection heat shield to minimise radiant heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To maximize volume, we cut out the airbox as large as possible for potential strut bracing. The stock folded intake pipe was replaced with a smooth carbon tube that also has a larger internal volume with an initial internal diameter of 111mm (4.4?) and gently tapers to match the turbo inlet. The pipe provides a smooth path from the filter to the turbo inlet. Finally, we use a bespoke high flow dry filter that is ISO tested for filtration performance and has a larger filter area than the stock filter.

dyno test

Our Toyota Supra A90 intake was independently tested by AMS on a Supra with downpipe and software. The tests were repeated the same day with only the airbox swapped out for our intake. As you can see, there is a power gain for a large portion of the rpm range, with some areas showing gains of over 20 hp. This is the result of derestricting the intake path while maintaining low intake temperatures by keeping a fully sealed system.

Another dyno test was carried out in the UK by Evolve Automotive using a downpipe and a Stage 2 software tune. This dyno graph shows the difference between a fully stock Supra and then with the stock airbox, downpipe and Stage 2 tune and finally with the Eventuri, downpipe and Stage 2 tune, a maximum power gain of 25bhp. All runs were carried out with the hood closed.

Each intake system consists of:

carbon fiber airbox with dual feed
Custom-made high-flow dry cone filter
carbon fiber inlet pipe with 111 mm opening ID
CNC-machined temperature sensor mount
CNC machined vent adapter
heat shield with reflective gold underlay
Laser-cut stainless steel brackets
Silicon coupler with terminals according to OEM specifications
