This intercooler is designed to provide the best cooling performance in difficult conditions. When designing this intercooler we took care to increase the front cooling area of the core. A larger frontal cooling area greatly improves cooling throughout the rev range along with a correctly designed core and end tanks. A low/thick intercooler, which is much easier to get on the aftermarket for this car, usually only provides better cooling at high speeds (high air velocity is required to push the cooling air through a thick core). We saw our path as the given choice for this car as it will also be used on technical race tracks with lower average speeds.
To increase the front cooling surface of the intercooler, the bumper beam needs to be moved forward, otherwise the intercooler won't fit behind it. So we developed two special spacers that move the bumper beam forward. These spacers also became an optimal position to use as mounting points for our intercooler.
What many people unfortunately overlook when designing a new intercooler is the need for ambient air ducts. The air ducts around the intercooler should not be left open, as a large part of the cooling air flows past them instead of going through the core. We supply two air ducts that close off these air ducts.
To improve charge air flow (reduce pressure drop), we have increased the size of the inlet/outlet hose connections on our intercooler from 45mm (1 ¾”) to 63mm (2 ½”) as the original connections are very restrictive. To ensure our intercooler mates with the original charge air pipes, we include two specially designed silicone hoses.
The 91% increased core volume and 168% increased frontal area is an achievement we are proud of (Tube&Fin Core 57mm thick). It is a remarkable difference. Noticeable, to say the least. The engine pulls better across the entire rev range and can withstand repeated full throttle runs without heating up. The idea that you should only retrofit an intercooler after a major engine tune is wrong, but common among customers and car drivers. On hot Swedish summer days, during repeated pulling, inspired driving or even normal driving in a hotter climate, it doesn't take much effort from the engine to generate dangerously high intake temperatures - even on a stock, non-tuned car. The cooling performance of an OEM intercooler is in many cases inferior, which affects the usable power output. The heat must be dissipated, otherwise the promised performance drops when you start to accelerate. With our intercooler you can be sure that the power is there at all times.
Some of the original plastic air ducts need to be trimmed (see installation instructions) to allow the installation of our much larger intercooler. The styrofoam that sits on the bumper support is removed during installation. The styrofoam no longer fits when the bumper support is pushed forward.
This product comes with everything needed for easy installation. Screws, washers and assembly instructions are of course included.
This dyno curve shows the power and torque for the do88 intercooler and turbo intake compared to OE. Test was done on car with TTE400 turbo, Syvecs ECU etc.
